Stavros is a famous and popular coastal settlement of Akrotiri, half an hour away from the center of the city of Chania. Mostly rural with unspoiled countryside features, the area is very gifted in its natural environment. A towering mountain that stands above a serene, blue-lagoon beach, of golden sand and constantly protected waters, makes up a scenery that is very much loved especially in the summer months.
The area has a series of coastal taverns and cafes that are open during the tourist season both in the main sandy beach and the second, out-of-the-beaten-path beach located to the west.
The main beach to the east has served as the backdrop to the famous Oscar-winning movie of Zorba the Greek with Anthony Quinn.
